Plans for a Drive-In Theater/Cafe in Far West El Paso in the Works
Remember the Bronco Drive-in on Alameda? What about the Rocket Drive-in on Dyer?
The drive-in movie theater days are long gone in El Paso — well, at least the non-porn type — but that could all be changing soon.
According to the construction news website Virtual Builders Exchange, Horizon Group Properties has plans to build a drive-in theater and cafe on the 33.3 acres of vacant land adjacent to The Outlet Shoppes at El Paso in Canutillo.
VBX reports that the city Planning Division has recommended approval of the project contingent on the results of a traffic impact analysis and conformance with certain city codes. As of December 2015, however, the rezoning request was withdrawn. VBX speculates it will likely be resubmitted in the near future.
That would awesome if they did see it through. How fun would that be if they were to bring back that nostalgia and we could introduce the outdoor movie-going experience to a new generation of El Pasoans? Fingers crossed!
