Payless may be reopening in El Paso as the retail shoe store looks to make a comeback thanks to the ongoing pandemic.

The iconic Payless shoe brand recently announced that it is planning on relaunching new stores in North America, including Texas.

After closing its doors across the country in 2019 including in El Paso, TX, Payless emerged back from bankruptcy in January 2020.

A new re-envisioned Payless is back with a new name (it dropped "ShowSource"), a new website, and has plans to open hundreds of stores across the country. Now more than ever thanks to the ongoing pandemic families are looking for an affordable value and Payless is ready to deliver.

According to USA Today, the company announced in a news release earlier this week that it “plans to open between, 300 to 500 free standing stores over the next five years and has 700 international stores including 298 franchise and 412 Latin and Central America locations that weren't affected in bankruptcy”.

Having the retail giant reopen in El Paso, TX will certainly create more job opportunities and help pump up our economy and that’s a big win for our community.

According to the company, it has new plans for its new brick and mortar stores that will feature "a first-of-its-kind Augmented Reality foot comparison chart", along with smart mirrors and touchscreen wall panels.

While its too early to tell if the new restructured Payless stores indeed will reopen in the Sun City, consumers can still find great values on footwear at payless.com.
