Las Cruces Police have been busy this morning investigating a shooting that happened overnight on the New Mexico State University campus. The shooting occurred late Monday evening after calls came in to 911 dispatch about a man with a gun at the Chamisa Village Apartments.

Initial reports indicated that the officer fired his gun during an incident and that a man was wounded. The suspect was transported to the hospital in stable condition and was released. The campus alert system had everyone on edge sending emails, texts and tweets about the activity at 11:55 p.m., 12:18 a.m., and a final “all-clear” notice at 12:25 a.m. An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to call 575-646-3311. All classes went on as usual Tuesday.
