New Legislature in New Mexico Could Bring Hopes for Marijuana Legalization

Could marijuana legalization be closer for New Mexico? With a new shift in legislative power it could be closer to reality than ever before.

The components needed to bring forth legalizing marijuana for recreational use in New Mexico have aligned after the elections. Efforts to decriminalize recreational marijuana have been halted by Republican controlled House of Representatives in Santa Fe for the past two years. A calling for a vote for a public change went as far as the Senate house but failed 17 - 24 vote. With both houses in the legislature now in Democratic hands advocates for the bill to pass are now more optimistic for the 2017 session.
