The bill would allow people 21-years-old and up to purchase and use marijuana legally. Under the bill the state would regulate growers and distributors and the legislation would also allow the production and sale of industrial hemp in the state.

Medical marijuana is legal in the state, however Gov. Susana Martinez has already made it clear that she would not support the legalization of recreational marijuana in New Mexico. The neighboring marijuana state of Colorado collected $70 million dollars in taxes in sales through June of 2015 and is expected to hit the $1 Billion mark for 2015 overall. This is intriguing to the state of New Mexico and the issue is not expected to die down anytime soon.
