I was working for Circuit City in Dallas on that Thursday in March.

I was really excited becuase I was about to start my new job at KHCK Radio in Dallas. It was time for lunch so I got in my car and turned on the radio station. I wanted to learn as much about the station before I actually got on the air. When I turned into "KICK FM", I notice the DJ was talking in a serious manner and the callers were very upset. Very strange for a Tejano station! I kept listening and then I heard something unimaginable! "Selena has been shot and is in serious condition at a hospital in Corpus" the DJ exclaimed with his voice cracking. I wasn't the biggest fan of Tejano music but I knew this was HUGE. I knew Selena was the biggest artist in Tejano music. I eventually started my job at KICK. I even met Selena's family during the Tejano Music Awards the following year. I remember all the excitment when we found out that she had been working on her first ever English only album. Selena's dad (Abraham) help us to get the song on the air before our competition (KISS FM Dallas). They never played her Spansih songs, but because of her death, interest was sky high.

I can't believe how much time has passed since that sad day in March. I never met Selena but many of the people who I worked with did. They all say she was a beautifull and kind person. They say Abraham was always by her side. I can't imagine how hard it is for Selena's family to hear the chart topping hit "Dreaming of You". They must wonder "What if Selena was never shot?".  Would Jennifer Lopez (who played Selena in the movie that made her a star) be the star that she is today? Would new artist Selena Gomez be as big as she is, if not for Selena. What if......
