For the second year in a row, Music Under the Stars will take place at two different venues over the summer.

The 34th season of MUTS will return to Cohen Stadium in June and to the Chamizal in July, according to a post on the Music Under the Stars Facebook.

Like last year, the first four free outdoor concerts will take place at the old ballpark in Northeast El Paso, and all of July’s performances -- including the 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular and the popular Noche Ranchera -- at the Chamizal National Memorial.

Prior to last year, the Chamizal had been the exclusive home to Music Under the Stars for over 30 years. The decision to split the shows between the two venues was mostly done at the insistence of City Council.

In an interview last year with the El Paso Times, Christopher Espinoza, who was the Marketing Coordinator for the City of El Paso Museum and Cultural Affairs Department at the time, said that because the city owns Cohen and had spent a lot of money over the years repairing and renovating it, council thought moving the signature summer event there would breathe new life into the free music series and the under-used stadium.

A compromise to share the love, so to speak, with the often overlooked Northeast, and the Fort Bliss community by moving the first half of the season to the ballpark was eventually reached.

The 2017 season of Music Under the Stars will get underway June 4 at Cohen Stadium and conclude July 23 at the Chamizal. This year's musical lineup will be announced in the coming weeks.
