Prom season is here, but for a lot of girls, the price of a prom dress is out of reach. The student council at Montwood High School wanted to make sure that everyone who needed a dress for prom could get one, so they began Operation Prom three years ago.

The annual event helps students who need a formal dress or gown for prom get one for free. The cafeteria at Montwood becomes a boutique with dresses and accessories that the students can choose from. Last year, more than 100 dresses were distributed, and any girl can be a part of Operation Prom.

The Montwood student council takes in gently used dresses throughout the year from students, members of the community, and various stores and churches. Montwood Student Council works with other El Paso area high schools, including Chapin, Irvin, Riverside, Del Valle, Burges, El Paso, Socorro, Eastwood and Mountain View on Operation Prom. If you would like to donate a gently used prom or formal dress, or know a teen girl in need of one, you can call Montwood High School at 937-2400.
