After a two-year reconstruction project, Montwood Drive in East El Paso has reopened to traffic.

Traffic just got a whole lot easier in East El Paso as Montwood Drive reopened to all traffic.

The $11 million reconstruction project was necessary for several fixtures including the roadway itself, improvement of the storm water facilities, upgrading sidewalks, and enhancing the landscape.

The new reconstruction will help alleviate persistent street flooding in the area by more effectively funneling rainfall runoff to the nearby Eastwood Dam including upgrades to the streets and drainage system, new landscaping and an irrigation system in the medians as well as new sidewalks with ADA-compliant ramps.

Even though the road is now open, motorists are asked to continue using caution in the area and Sun Metro Route 53 will also return to its regular route.
