Gallery: MLK Day – Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King Junior

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 and assassinated on April 4, 1968. In his 39 years, King was a PhD scholar, minister, and civil rights leader. He is most fondly remembered for his iconic "I Have a Dream Speech," delivered on August 28, 1963 from the steps of Washington D.C.'s Lincoln Memorial.

"Pride (In the Name of Love)" is a song by U2 from their 1984 album, The Unforgettable Fire, about Martin Luther King, Jr. The song was originally intended to be about Ronald Reagan's pride in America's military power but was re-written after Bono read a book on King's life and times, and a biography of Malcolm X.

The song contains an erroneous reference to King's shooting as "Early morning, April 4", when it was actually after 6 p.m. Bono has since acknowledged the error and occasionally changes the lyric in live performances.
