I don't mean wonderful hyperbolically either, I mean it literally. It LITERALLY inspires me with Wonder.

El Pasoans with special needs, who never really get to stand out, are getting their chance in the limelight, overcoming things like stage fright, and putting themselves out there in front of their friends and family, which IS wonderful.

Starting with just 20 members, and established in 2004, the Miracle League of El Paso has provided children and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities opportunities to play organized sports in an environment that's safe, friendly, and most importantly fun.

Recognizing the importance of fostering confidence and self-esteem, the league started the annual pageant, the only one in the El Paso area, for kids and adults with special needs called The Little Lords and Ladies.

Contestants get dressed up in their finest formal wear and participate in things like a talent show and a costume contest.

I'm lucky enough to host the event this year, but I hope everyone who reads this thinks about supporting this truly amazing organization all year round.

There is something about playing the game that lights up a youngster’s eyes. But for children facing serious physical and mental disabilities, that opportunity can often be difficult to achieve. Baseball diamonds weren’t exactly designed with wheelchairs and crutches in mind.

The Miracle League removes the barriers which keep mentally and physically disabled children off the baseball field and lets them experience the joy of America’s favorite pastime.
