"Baby, I'm preying on you tonight," Adam Levine promises in the sultry first seconds of Maroon 5's latest single, 'Animals.'

The track, which dropped earlier today (Aug. 22) is Maroon 5's second single off of their upcoming album, 'V.' In the creature-filled lyric video, Adam croons about his animalistic (and seductive) instincts.

'Animals' has Maroon 5's signature catchiness, but lacks their usual easygoing beats. Instead, a throbbing rhythm kicks in as Adam begins to chant, "You can start over / You can run free / You can find other fish in the sea / You can pretend it's meant to be / But you can't stay away from me."

Oh, and did we mention the singer lets out a howl just after the three-minute mark? Whew! Is it getting hot in here?

We're looking forward to see how the band brings this song to life in live performances and the impending music video. Luckily, we won't have to wait long. Maroon 5 are slated to perform at the 2014 MTV VMAs on Aug. 24. Although their song choice hasn't been confirmed yet, we're willing to bet it's their latest offering, 'Animals.'
