No legal use of marijuana for New Mexico any time soon.

New Mexico won't be mirroring Colorado and other states that have legalized marijuana as a recreational drug, at least not this year any time soon.

Last night State senators voted 24-17 against a proposed constitutional amendment that would have allowed people 25 and older to buy and smoke marijuana legally in New Mexico. The bill also would have legalized industrial hemp.

The debate lasted about 40 minutes and 18 republicans and 6 democrats voted against the bill, putting legalization of marijuana in the state back at least another year to where it can be brought up again.
