If you have a kid who is still car seat age, you know how frustratingly complex they can be. You need to make sure that they are properly installed or else they are almost pointless. You might think your child’s car seat is properly installed, but TxDOT says 3 out 4 are not, so they are offering a free car seat inspection this month.

The inspection is not only just to make sure that the car seat is properly installed, but also to make sure that it is the proper size for your child.

Texas law requires all children under 8 years of age – unless they are taller than 4 feet 9 inches – to be in a car seat whenever they ride in a passenger vehicle. You could get a ticket of up to $250 if your child isn’t properly restrained.

If you want to get a free car seat check with a TxDOT Traffic Safety Specialist, text the word “seat” and your ZIP code to 876526.
