El Paso County Parks is giving sweethearts a place to symbolize their love on Valentine's Day with a love locks display on the lake shore of Ascarate Park. A free romantic movie will also be part of mix.

For the uninitiated, a 'love lock' is a padlock which couples typically write their names or initials on and then latch to a fence or similar public fixture to symbolize their commitment to one another.

Although tradition calls for throwing the key into a nearby body of water, the county prefers the more environmentally conscious gesture of either putting the key in your pocket or disposing it in the designated area.

Along with the opportunity to publicly lock down your bae, the County will also be doing a free showing of the Sandra Bullock/Ryan Reynolds romantic classic,The Proposal inside the pavilion, which will be appropriately decorated for the holiest of all romantic days.

You can make a whole non-traditional dinner and movie night out of it as a handful of food trucks will be onsite selling shareable food. Or you can bring your own snacks and drinks if you prefer.

"Valentine’s Day in Ascarate Park" is free and there will be no charge for parking, but seating inside the pavilion is limited. No sitter? No problem, make it a family night then as it is a family friendly event.
