One person's trash is another person's treasure, but if you treasure your stuff, learn how to make sure it doesn't get trashed. If you want to reserve your personal records so that they last your lifetime and beyond, Nerd Night with Insights Museum at the historic Burges House is the event you shouldn't miss.

This Nerd Night will give you tips on how to build an archive of your life for future generations. If you think that kind of thing is boring, you should check out the EL Paso County Historical Society at the Burges House. They have an extensive archive of historical artifacts and papers from El Paso past. There are yearbooks, city directories, newspapers, photos - if you are wondering about El Paso history, you need to check out the Burges House, and the El Paso County Historical Society.

These are the talks that will be held Friday, October 5, from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.:

1. Claudia A. Rivers, Department Head of UTEP Special Collections, will be discussing conservation vs preservation and how to preserve your own personal records.
2. Dennis Daily, head of NMSU Special Collections, will give a talk on letters from the dead.
3. Vicky Zhuang Ph.D., UTEP Biodiversity Collections Manager, will discuss animals and plants in archives.
