Her long time assistant and his partner were arrested Monday morning in Las Cruces on suspicion of embezzling nearly $200,000 from different financial accounts belonging to Senator Papen.

Stephen Siddall, 44, Papen’s former assistant of 14 years who lived with her and also served as her campaign treasurer, is now being charged with one count of embezzlement over $20,000, nine counts of forgery, two counts of disposing of stolen property, and one count of identity theft. A criminal complaint was filed Friday in Dona Ana County Magistrate Court.

Seemed  the Senator caught on when unauthorized checks were being authorized by Siddall without her discretion. Both men are in Dona Ana County Detention Center awaiting trial.
