Las Cruces Man Indicted Earlier Last Month Now Facing Criminal Sexual Charges of a Minor

A grand jury has indicted Stephen Cordero of sexually abusing his girlfriend’s son. Stephen Cordero, 24, was indicted on one count of criminal sexual penetration of a minor, a first-degree felony. The additional charge comes about a month after the defendant and his girlfriend, Josie Rubio, 28, were each indicted on 14 counts of child abuse.

During the investigation, the boy told an interviewer that he was sexually assaulted by Cordero. As a result, a indictment was filed and the defendant was formally charged. Both Cordero and Rubio are still in custody and facing trial dates.
