Christina Mendez of Las Cruces was being sought by police for one count of forgery over $2,500 after swindling an elderly ex-patient.

The charge is a third degree felony and a warrant has been issued for her arrest with a cash bond of $10,000. She was the care giver for an 85-year-old man who she tok care of every day. After an outing with the man she requested some gas money and he wrote her a check for $11. 

Mendez then changed the amount on the check to $11,000 and deposited it into her bank through an ATM. Detective found clear evidence that the check had been altered and they also recovered surveillance footage of Mendez depositing the check into the ATM.

UPDATE: Mendez was arrested Friday afternoon on a warrant for a Third Degree Felony. She bonded out that evening
