Lady Gaga isn’t exactly known for subtlety — and her new video, ‘Marry the Night,’ is no exception.

The clip, released Thursday, is a deeply personal effort, conceived and directed by Mama Monster herself — although she’s almost unrecognizable in parts of it. And, like the Oscar-nominated tour-de-force ‘Black Swan,’ the video features a disturbing mix of ballet and psychosis.

Gaga says the song that inspired the dark 14-minute video was written during a particularly rough period in her life that happened after being dropped by her first label:

“If you give up after something like that, you were never destined to be an entertainer … I love obstacles. To marry your obstacles mean I, the artist, wholeheartedly accept everything you throw at me. I am destined to struggle, I am destined to write music about the struggle, and I accept it willingly.”

As with all her other videos, this one is sure to get people talking, and it’s yet another peek into the mind of one of this generation’s most creative performers. Watch the video below.
