Kelly Clarkson Covers Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’ At Toronto Concert, Nails It
Pop queen Kelly Clarkson, who is currently traveling North America on her Piece By Piece Tour, made a stop at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in Toronto, Canada on Saturday July 25. There, the “Stronger” singer—whose tour kicked off July 11 and who always performs a fan requested cover song at her shows—absolutely delighted Taylor Swift fans in the audience (including in particular an audience member by the name of Sean) by covering Tay's smash single "Blank Space."
The 33-year-old artist, who has also covered Nick Jonas' "Jealous," NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye," and Rihanna's "Stay" at her other tour stops, gave Swift's 1989 pop hit a slower, soulful, stripped-down makeover, truly making it her own with big, smokey vocals and a mid-tempo pace. And it would seem that Clarkson was just as excited to cover the track as fans were to hear it.
"We always do fan requests every show, and I let somebody from the audience pick the song," Clarkson explained to the cheering crowd. "I kept fan request in the set-list because I love it. I love other artists. But tonight I love this song," she added, gushing, "I love Taylor Swift for one main reason, because I can listen to her, my 8 year old can listen to her, my 14 year old likes her, my husband, he's good with it... That's very hard, to be that broad, and she writes some killer songs... This is one of my favorites of hers. We're doing it a little different, but sing along!"
True to form, Kelly slayed it, and we can't wait to see which song she covers next.
