El Paso burger lovers who have been patiently waiting for El Paso's first Johnny Rockets to open won't have to wait much longer.

I'm told the new Johnny Rockets on North Mesa by UTEP that I last blogged about back in February is days away from opening.

A sign on the door states the crew is currently training, and although an official opening day has not been formally announced, I was told by a couple of the newly hired employees the goal is to open tomorrow or Thursday, August 24 or 25.

And by the looks of the building, we're getting the new-look Johnny Rockets meant to appeal to millennials, Hispanic customers and families.

Although the restaurant made its name with a 1950s diner look, jukeboxes, and servers dressed in classic soda fountain uniforms, the brand refresh moves away from all-booth seating and features industrial style lighting. Along with the modernization comes a new logo, restaurant design, and new, more casual uniforms for team members.

As previously reported, a second Johnny Rockets will open inside Cielo Vista Mall in September. Word is a third location at The Outlet Shoppes at El Paso is being considered -- although the rumor has not been officially confirmed.

Johnny Rockets is a fast casual restaurant chain. It's known for its classic diner menu of burgers, fries and hand-spun shakes.
