Veteran's Day is Saturday, November 11. It is the day that we honor the men and women who have served in our armed forces. Veteran's Day was previously known as Armistice Day and it marked the anniversary of the end of World War I. World War I formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, and the day remained known as Armistice Day until it was renamed in the U.S. as Veterans Day in 1954, about nine years after World War II ended.

Because we are still actively fighting the war against terror in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as in other parts of the world, the country is dealing with troops returning from war. That is the theme of this week's free movie at the International Museum of Art.

'The Best Years Of Our Lives' follows three soldiers returning from action in WWII. There is a wealthy banker who has to make tough financial decisions about helping fellow veterans. Another soldier worries that his wounds have made him unattractive to his fiancee. A third soldier has a hard time finding work and dealing with finding out his wife cheated on him while he was at war.

The movie deals with the issues that our returning troops still deal with now, so it is a very timely movie, even though it was made in 1946. This is a powerful movie and so worth your time to go see it.
