Authorities are seeking any information behind the vandalism of Indian Heights Park that occurred this week causing thousands of dollars in damage.

The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department has closed Indian Heights Park which is located at 3209 White Bird Dr., after vandals torched the playground equipment.

The El Paso Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the incident that happened on Wednesday, July 13th at 6:30 p.m. The fire destroyed the playground and burned the surrounding grass and trees resulting in an estimated $120,000 worth of damages.

Parks and Recreation staff has installed a temporary fence around the damaged area until the playground is repaired. Unfortunately, this is the second time in three years that Indian Heights Park has been set on fire and vandalized.
