Today is Flag Day, commemorating the adoption of the stars-and-stripes flag of the United States, on this day in June 14th, 1777. One of the thing that has become synonymous with the flag – to me at least - is “The Pledge of Allegiance”.

As school kids, we recite the oath of loyalty to our national flag everyday. But for most of us, they're just a bunch of words that we memorized. Few of us have ever actually thought about what the Pledge means. But Red Skelton did. On January 14th, 1969, the comedian  took a few minutes of his own show on CBS to explain the meaning of "The Pledge of Allegiance" ...
