Season 11 'American Idol' winner, Philip Phillips has a very unimaginative name, but his hit single 'Home', has captured my heart!

I remember hearing 'Home' for the first time and thinking, what a peppy little song!  It didn't really stick with me, but then I started hearing it all over the place.  The first time I really took notice of it was during the Major League Baseball All Star Game in July:

His rendition made even Darren stop and listen, and he's a hardcore metalhead!  He said it was really uplifting and keeping with the family atmosphere.  He even youtubed it to check out the official video.

Then, next thing you know, 'Home' was all over the Olympics!  They used it as bumper music coming in and out of commercials, and then when they did a piece on the Women's Gymnastic Team, they used it again!

It's funny, or strange, or funny/strange, but it's such a heraldic, go-get 'em kind of song that it chokes me up.  It's such an American kind song - so brave and passionate, kind of like a rallying cry.  I just love it.  It makes me think of our troops being so far away from home for so long, and how much we should all make their homecoming special so that they know how grateful we are for their service and sacrifice.  It makes me think of family and our city and how special we all are, even when we're arguing over thing like the ballpark.  You know you've done something right when you've given the world a song that makes you want to smile at someone just to make them feel better.  That's how 'Home' makes me feel.

And now I'm going to go take a nap, because clearly, I need one!  Sorry I'm such a weepy nerd.    :-)
