That sound you hear coming from the west side is the collective cry of frustrated motorists.

It's been a couple of years now of closures, detours and traffic jams in west El Paso, and as the Go 10 project nears its end, those closures and detours are becoming more frequent.

The latest inconvenience will be in the form of a 57-hour closure of the 1-10/Sunland Park Drive Interchange from Friday night through Monday morning, per a post on the Go 10 El Paso Facebook. The first of possibly 3 full weekend-long closure is so that crews can start demolishing the Sunland Park Drive overpass.

57-hour Closure #1 - 9 p.m. Friday, May 4 - 6 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2018

• I-10 will close in both directions between the Sunland Park exit and entrance ramps
• All Sunland Park Drive overpasses in both directions will close.
• The Resler entrance ramp to I-10 East will close.

A second 57-hour closure will take place over the Mother's Day weekend, May 11-May 14. If things don't progress as planned on either weekend because of bad weather or other unforeseen factors then a third 57-hour weekend closure will be implemented the following weekend, May 18-21.
