There's been a scheduling change to this weekend's complete closure of I-10 in West El Paso. The closure will now start a day earlier, Saturday, March 19, from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m., instead of Sunday.

The change comes at the request of New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez, who wanted to avoid a potential “traffic nightmare” on the final day of the Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino Fiesta Del Sol.

Although TxDot feels the original date would be less of a hassle for commuters, they "support the request" of the New Mexico governor.

The Fiesta del Sol event concludes Sunday with live races that have a combined payout of $1.1 million, and a concert by International recording artist Ana Barbara, considered one of the leading female figures in regional Mexican music.
