There's been a scheduling change to this weekend's complete closure of I-10 in West El Paso. The closure will now start a day earlier, Saturday, March 19, from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m., instead of Sunday.

The change comes at the request of New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez, who wanted to avoid a potential “traffic nightmare” on the final day of the Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino Fiesta Del Sol.

Although TxDot feels the original date would be less of a hassle for commuters, they "support the request" of the New Mexico governor.

The Fiesta del Sol event concludes Sunday with live races that have a combined payout of $1.1 million, and a concert by International recording artist Ana Barbara, considered one of the leading female figures in regional Mexican music.

I-10 West Closure:

3 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2016

Closed to traffic:

• I-10 east and west from Executive Center to Sunland Park Drive

• Paisano from Executive to Sunland Park Drive, and Crockett Street from Sunland Park Drive to Paisano

Here are the detours you will need to take:

• Eastbound traffic must exit Sunland Park Drive then turn left on Sunland Park and turn right onto Mesa. Take Mesa all the way to Downtown or turn right on Executive to jump back onto I-10.

• Westbound traffic must exit Executive Center then turn right on Mesa. Take Mesa to Sunland Park Drive and turn left to get back onto I-10.
