Around 9 a.m., a package was found outside the Las Cruces District Court located at 201 W. Picacho Ave. on the side of the building that faces Alameda Avenue in Las Cruces.

The package was found by a security guard and a portion of the courthouse near Alameda Avenue was evacuated as a precaution while the bomb squad investigated the package. Nearby businesses were placed on modified lockdown. The lockdown took about two hours of the business day until businesses were able to continue their normal day.

Investigations are being done to find out who was behind the hoax. Surveillance cameras are being reviewed and employees in the courthouse and from surrounding buildings are also being questioned. If you have any information, you are asked to contact Las Cruces Police.
