Just how heavy was Friday night's downpour? Severe enough to result in an all too familiar sight around here: flooding on I-10 and traffic backed up for more than a mile.

With all the construction and the city down to but a couple of alternate routes, motorists had few options to get home and many were stuck on the road for hours.

Hail slammed the downtown area dumping pellets of frozen rain on San Jacinto Plaza.

The rain started late Friday afternoon (Nov. 4) just as work let out and while many were headed to high school football games and other weekend functions.

It quickly turned into a severe downpour catching everyone by surprise and resulting in flooding all over town.

Good thing we've been paying a monthly Storm Water Drainage fee all these years. And, yes, I'm being sarcastic.
