Tuesday morning (Dec. 27), TMZ obtained information from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office which revealed the cause of death of rapper Heavy D.

Heavy D, whose real name is Dwight Arrington Myers, died unexpectedly on Nov. 9, and new reports indicate the cause being from a pulmonary embolism caused by deep leg vein thrombosis. A pulmonary embolism is a blockage of one or more arteries in the lungs, which causes blood clotting in various parts of the body. Heavy D’s blockage was formed in his legs.

Another factor being linked to his death is the long plane ride home to California from Europe following the tribute concert for Michael Jackson. Heavy D’s death came the following day. Officials have also reported that Heavy D suffered from heart disease, which could be another contributing factor in his sudden death last month.

Following the tragic death of Heavy D, a private memorial was held in his home state of New York, where many of his famous friends came to pay their respects to the man who helped shape the direction of rap in the ’90s.

Heavy D was 44 years old when he died. His passing is being classified as “natural” on his official death certificate.
