Maybe you've heard the talk, or one of your friends shared a social media link declaring the beloved Texas grocer H-E-B has seen the light and is finally going to open a grocery store in El Paso.

“I just heard a rumor from a credible source that HEB purchased 3 properties with plans on expanding into the El Paso market,” a recent post on Reddit declared.

Could it be? Does H-E-B really have plans to expand its brand to El Paso? Intent on getting to bottom of it, I reached out to H-E-B spokeswoman Julie Bedingfield.

Her reply was short and to the point:

H-E-B has no current plans for a store in El Paso.

So there you go. Although the San Antonio-based grocery chain continues to grow and expand throughout Texas -- including two locations in Midland, the state's 4th largest city will remain without.

On the other hand, “no current plans” isn’t a ‘no, never’. To paraphrase Jim Carrey's character in "Dumb and Dumber," there's still a chance.
