Country Legend George Jones Dead at 81

Country star George Jones died today (April 26) following his hospitalization on April 18 for a fever and irregular blood pressure. He was 81.

Jones was a Kennedy Center Honoree, a member of the Grand Ole Opry and he was inducted in the County Music Hall of Fame back in 1992. He has the distinction of being the most charted country artist in history with over 150 hits making it to the Billboard Charts ('He Stopped Loving Her Today' is probably the best known among them).

Jones was married four times, most famously to fellow country legend Tammy Wynette, who died in 1998. George himself nearly died himself in a car accident a year later, but was able to recover and keep on touring.

He was in the midst of his tour, which he said was to be his last, when he was hospitalized. He is survived by his four children and his wife of 30 years.
