The new Desert Pride Academy facility has not gotten a Certificate of Occupancy as of Friday. Because of required building inspections, the district doesn't think they will be able to get the Certificate before August 4th, which was the scheduled first day of school for students at Desert Pride Academy. The new first day of school at Desert Pride Academy students will be August 11th. Teachers go back on July 30th and 31st for scheduled professional development, and then to work on August 7th. Staff at Desert Pride will be contacted by school administration about the start delay. Students will be informed via school messenger and school staff.

The second school in GISD to be delayed is Alta Vista Early College High School. Construction problems will delay the start of school for students until August 11th for students. Teachers will report to work on July 30th and 31st for scheduled professional development and to work on August 7th. The staff will be contacted by school administration about the delay in the first day of school. Students will be informed via school messenger and school staff as well.
