A soldier stationed at Ft. Bliss was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on Tuesday and charged with last month's shooting of a bouncer at a Northeast bar.

Maurice Antonio Drake, a bouncer at Rumors Bar on Dyer, was shot in the hand after a struggle with 26-year-old Jhonathan De La Cruz shortly after closing time on Dec. 20. According to police, De La Cruz was escorted out of the bar by Drake for allegedly acting rowdy. Once outside, the Ft. Bliss soldier went to his car, retrieved a handgun and walked back towards the bouncer. Drake was shot in the ensuing struggle for the gun. De La Cruz then fled the scene.

He was taken into custody by Ft. Bliss Criminal Investigators and turned over to Crimes Against Persons detectives Tuesday morning.
