El Paso, Tex. - The 5th Annual Downtown KidsPalooza is scheduled forSaturday, March 24, 2012 from 10:30am to 5:00pm. Downtown KidsPalooza is an all-day family event organized by the El Paso Symphony Orchestra with the support of our FAMILY FUN PARNTERS.  Downtown area arts organizations join forces to present a day of fun for families with free transportation to a variety of stops throughout the downtown area.

.  This year’s event will include the musical fun of the Paisley Pickles, music from Harry Potter and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” magicians, clowns, live Crocs, games, face painting, arts and crafts, and lots more!  In addition, walkaround Cookie Monster from Sesame Street will make a special appearance at Arts Festival Plaza.  Over 80% of the events are free of charge and all other events charge a minimal fee no more than $5. Nowhere in El Paso can children experience so many various and rich programming in an all-day event involving all of the downtown arts and cultural organizations.  Children are engaged at each venue with programming created especially for them and their families.  In addition, the El Paso Symphony is working with Fort Bliss to bring in families and their children and working with the USO to bring in Wounded Warriors and their families to the event.  The goal is to provide free concert tickets to these families.

Schedule of Events: (see attached schedule for all the details)

The El Paso Symphony Orchestra led by Assistant Conductor Andy Moran will present two performances of “The Magic in Music” featuring selections from William’s Harry Potter, Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Mozart’s The Magic Flute.  Dancers and mimes will join the El Paso Symphony Orchestra to bring The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and The Magic Flute to life on the Plaza Theatre stage, 12pm and 2pm.  Dance and mime produced by Eden Enterprises. Kids can rock out to the musical fun of the Paisley Pickles at Arts Festival Plaza. Four free shows:  11:15am, 1:00pm, 2:45pm and 4pm.  The Paisley Pickles are generously sponsored by El Paso Children’s Hospital. In addition, El Paso Children’s Hospital will have information and children’s screenings.

Cookie Monster will make 5-30’min special appearances at Arts Festival Plaza:  9:30am, 11:15am, 1:15pm, 3:00pm and 4:15pm.

The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department will turn Cleveland Square into a Fun Zone with Tug of War, Potato Sack Races, Ring Toss, Hula Hoops. Gus and Goldie will make special appearances.

The El Paso Museum of Art will have free hands-on and interactive art activities: drumming and storytelling with Nancy Green; mask making inspired by African Art. Plus attendees, can enjoy the “Magnificent Mexico: 20th Century Modern Masterworks” exhibit: $10 non-members, $5 Museum members, children 12 and under free all day!

The El Paso Museum of History will celebrate Magic in History! Magician, Bob King, will present “Abbra Kidabra” 3 free shows: 1pm, 3pm &  4pm. They will also have take home activities for kids.

The El Paso Holocaust Museum& Study Center will provide fun under “The Magic Tent!” Kids make your own “Magic Goop” to take home.

Insights El Paso Science Museum will have: make your own magic potions, bubbles and slime, disappearing ink, wizard hats, “Flying in mid-air” magical cube box, the expanding marshmallow man, build a Lego® magical castle,  create your own fireman jacket. Tesla Coil and Tornado displays 5 minutes before every hour. Plus Dr. Skateboard (Dr. Robertson and his crew) will demonstrate action packed science concepts like motion, forces, Newton's Laws of Motion, and simple machines with their skateboards from 1:00pm – 1:30pm and again at 3:00-3:30pm. UTEP physics student will demonstrate the Magic in Physics – he magically lies on a bed of nails while a brick is broken over his body without getting a single puncture wound at 12 Noon - 12:30pm and 2:00pm - 2:30pm.

Lynx Exhibits is turning their outdoor parking lot into a free Magical fair! From the Magic Croc story corner with celebrity readers to magic tricks and take-home crafts, Lynx is a hopping place! Noah's Ark Pets & Supplies is back with live animal displays and win-a-Beta fish game; EpParent.com is painting hair; the Magoffin State Home Historic Site and the El Paso Zoological Society are offering magical crafts, tricks and balloon animals; Allegria's4Angels is painting faces; and Global Hands will offer snacks and drinks. Visit the Centennial Museum's display and enjoy rides, costumed mascot, contests and more. Participants get activity maps stamped for a chance to win great prizes. If that isn't enough, for one day only KidsPalooza attendees can enjoy the "Science of SuperCroc" exhibit for just $5 and meet the brand new, live, six-foot Nile Crocodile!

The El Paso Public Library is having a free PotterPalooza day with viewing of Harry Potter movies, family story time and Hedwigs and Glasses craft time.  Movies:  10:30a: Harry Potter and the Half-Blod Prince, 12:45pm: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 3:15pm: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.
