It's getting close to the 4th of July holiday weekend, and once again this year, County officials have decided to ban fireworks sales.

All fireworks were banned for the fourth straight year by the El Paso County Commissioners Court today.

At their regular meeting, Commisioners voted unanimously to not allow fireworks sales in the County through July 5th. Fireworks can't be sold after that date in Texas. The continued drought is the reason Commissioners banned fireworks for the fourth year in a row. People from the local fireworks industry tried to make their case against the ban at the meeting today. They asked Commissioners to come up with safe zones where fireworks could be used, but they couldn't convince the Court.

So what are you supposed to do to catch some fireworks this 4th of July season? There are a couple of opportunities - the first is hang out around the Southwest University Park any Saturday night when the El Paso Chihuahuas are playing. KISS FM sponsors a spectacular fireworks display on those nights:

Next weekend, you can head downtown again for the El Paso Downtown Street Fest and check out some more dazzling fireworks!

We'll keep an eye out and let you know when other fireworks displays are announced!
