The 3 day Memorial Day weekend, marking the unofficial start of summer, is just a few days away and with that, the start of ‘Fest’ season in El Paso. From now to Labor Day, the Sun City's outdoor calendar is filled with concerts and festivals beginning with this weekend's 28th annual KLAQ Balloonfest, and the 21st annual Southern New Mexico Wine Festival.

Balloonfest is a two-part party, with hot air balloons taking off in the morning and rock bands playing throughout the afternoon. This year’s Balloonfest will feature more than 30 balloons taking off at dawn Saturday through Monday from the YMCA's W.C. Snow Sports and Family Recreation Center near Westside Drive in Sunland Park, while Wet 'N' Wild Waterworld in Anthony will once again host the daily concerts that include recent Grammy winners Halestorm. You can find all the info you need on the Q's Events page.

The Southern New Mexico Wine Festival, Saturday through Monday at the Southern New Mexico Fairgrounds in Las Cruces, offers daily music as well -- albeit a bit more reserved than the rockin’ that’ll take place in Anthony. Stage acts at Wine Fest lean more towards the jazz/blues genre. This festival is more about sampling wines produced by New Mexico wineries as well as local food and vendors. You can find driving directions and a list of FAQ's on the Southern New Mexico Wine Festival website.

Wherever you choose to get festive this weekend, try not to party too hearty; pace yourself and save some of your strength for The Downtown Street Festival, Texas Tattoo Showdown Festival, and the Vans Warped Tour -- all of them just a few weeks away.
