Summer brings a dip in El Paso's blood supply and this year, it's really bad.

Schools out, peeps are leaving on vacation and many college students have headed home for summer break. These are just a few of the things that cause an annual drop in El Paso's blood supply and this year, it's really, really bad.

Blood transfusion levels in El Paso have risen 13% and United Blood Services desperately needs blood donations! According to a UBS press release, blood supplies are 42% below required levels. Simply put, if you or a family member need blood, there might not be any for you.

UBS have extended operating hours at their 424 S. Mesa Hills and 1338 Zaragosa locations as well as the Las Cruces donor center at 1200 Commerce Dr.  Daily blood drives are also being arranged around El Paso. For more info, call 1-877-UBS-HERO (1-877-827-4376). You can schedule an appointment here.
