El Pasoan Ryan Gonzalez saw his dreams of becoming a pop star come closer to becoming a reality on Sunday night’s (Dec. 3) episode of the Mexican version of The Voice, La Voz Mexico.

The 25-year-old, a member of Colombian singer and songwriter Maluma’s team, battled a fellow team member in the Knockout Round for the right to advance, and earned a spot in the semi-finals after coach Maluma judged his rendition of Shape of You by Ed Sheeran the better performance of the night.

Gonzalez is one of two El Pasoans who made it onto the current season of the show. Elia Esparza, who competed on The Voice in 2016 but lost  in the battle rounds, was eliminated from the competition last week.

You can keep up with Ryan's bid to become Mexico's La Voz at 8:30 p.m. Sundays on Las Estrellas El Paso-Channel 2, or cable Channel 17.
