Here’s what’s going on in and around El Paso this weekend, January 31 – February 2. Some events are free, some will cost you a few bucks:

FRIDAY:

Live Horse Racing – The live horse racing season continues at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino. Post time is 12:15 p.m. Free general admission and parking. More Details

Friday at the Fire – Enjoy an evening of live music set against the ambiance of the Freedom Crossing outdoor fireplace. Tonight, Mainstreet 6- 11 p.m. Free.

El Paso Rhinos Hockey – El Paso’s Junior League ice hockey team hosts the Wichita Thunder. 7:30 p.m. at the Sierra Providence Events Center, next to the Coliseum, 4100 E. Paisano. Ticket prices vary. More Details

Border Wars II – Live boxing event featuring local favorites Antonio Escalante, Abbie Han, and others. 6p.m. at the El Paso County Coliseum. Ticket prices vary. More Details

El Paso Playhouse ‘Three Viewings’ – Three Viewings is a comedy written by author and playwright Jeffrey Hatcher consisting of three monologues, each of which takes place in a funeral home. 8 p.m. at the El Paso Playhouse, 2501 Montana. Ticket prices $10, $8 seniors, $7 military/students with ID; $5 students under 18. 532-1317

UTEP Dinner Theatre Presents ‘Smokey Joe’s Cafe’ – A musical revue showcasing 39 pop standards, including rock and roll and rhythm and blues songs written by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. 7 p.m., 2nd Floor UTEP’s Union Building West. Tickets prices vary. More Details

SATURDAY:

Winter Market at Ardovino’s Desert Crossing – The “producers only” market features area farmers, backyard gardeners and artisans selling organic and pesticide-free vegetables, locally-made goat cheeses, natural free range chickens and eggs, native plants for home and yard, fresh-baked breads and salsas. 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (575) 589-0653, ext. 3

Downtown Artist and Farmers Market – The market offers the chance to shop for original arts and crafts and regionally grown produce in an outdoor setting while enjoying entertainment featuring local artists, food vendors and free activities for the entire family. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Union Plaza District (near The Garden Restaurant) along Anthony Street. Ice Skating – Whoosh around on ice skates in the area’s largest public ice skating rink. 12 noon to 3 p.m. in the Sierra Providence Event Center, 4100 E Paisano, behind the El Paso County Coliseum. Cost: $8, $6 Military. Admission includes skate rental. More Details
