Here’s what’s going on in and around El Paso this weekend, August 1 – August 3, 2014. Some events are free, the others will cost you a few bucks:

FRIDAY:

San Eli First Friday Art Walk & Ghost Tour – All of the art galleries stay open for this once a month evening event, which includes live music at the Bandido Cantina, a “Movie on the Wall” at around 8:00 p.m., and Ghost Tour . 6 – 9 p.m. in the San Elizario Art District located off Socorro Road at Main Street. Artwalk is FREE, the Ghost Tour $10. More Details

Friday at the Fire – Live music by local bands set against the ambiance of the Freedom Crossing at Ft. Bliss outdoor fireplace. 6 – 11 p.m. FREE. This week, Trailerband (Country).

Alfresco! Fridays – Fresh-air performances from local bands playing various genres of music. 6 p.m. on the Convention Center Plaza. FREE. This week, The Birdogs (Classic Rock). More Details

El Paso Playhouse Presents ‘Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike’ – El Paso’s longest running Community Theater presents the comedy play written by Christopher Durang about regret and sibling rivalry. Showtime is 8 p.m. at the El Paso Playhouse, 2501 Montana. Ticket prices vary. More Details

Movies on the Lawn – UTEP’s annual summer film series features movies shown outdoors on an 18-foot inflatable screen. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, but leave your alcohol and glass containers at home. Concessions available. This week’s featured film is “Teen Beach Movie”. Movie starts at approximately 8:30 p.m., weather permitting, at Kidd Field on the UTEP Campus. FREE. More Details

Movies in the Canyon – Family friendly, relatively current movies screened on an inflatable screen set up on the stage of the McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre. Approximately 8:30 p.m., weather permitting. FREE. No outside food or beverages allowed. Popcorn, soft drinks and other snacks sold at the concession stand. Tonight, “The Blind Side”. 915-534-0665

SATURDAY:

Farmer’s Market at Ardovino’s Desert Crossing – The “producers only” market features area farmers, backyard gardeners and artisans selling organic and pesticide-free vegetables, locally-made goat cheeses, natural free range chickens and eggs, native plants for home and yard, fresh-baked breads and salsas. 7:30 a.m. to noon. Downtown Artist and Farmers Market – The market offers the chance to shop for original arts and crafts and regionally grown produce in an outdoor setting while enjoying entertainment featuring local artists, food vendors and free activities for the entire family. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Union Plaza District (near The Garden Restaurant) along Anthony Street. Free parking. More Details

Thomas the Tank Engine Meet and Greet – The fictional steam locomotive is on a fun-filled, sing along adventure and is making a stop at the El Paso Exploreum, 300 W. San Antonio. The Really Useful Engine will be available to take photos for FREE with children and their families from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. More Details

Bug Awareness Weekend at the El Paso Zoo – The annual bug out at the zoo features live bug displays set up throughout the zoo spotlighting creepy crawlers from around the world, plus bug cooking and tasting, and more. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the El Paso Zoo, 4001 E Paisano Dr. Admission prices vary. Family Play Date at Freedom Crossing – The theme for this family-themed event is “Frozen”. Frozen-themed activities include a photo booth with ‘Anna’ and ‘Elsa’, Frozen face painting, and free Frozen snow cones. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Freedom Crossing, 11611 Haan Road at Ft. Bliss. More Details

Saturdays in the Park – Bring blankets, lawn chairs and a picnic basket and enjoy a different live band at various parks throughout the city. 6 -9 p.m. This week, Dueto Arlyd (Latin) performs at Mary Webb Park, 3401 E. Missouri. 212-1006

El Paso Chihuahuas Baseball – El Paso’s Triple A team hosts the Reno Aces. Fireworks, presented by 93.1 KISS-FM, will follow after the game. Game time is 7:05 p.m. at Southwest University Park on Santa Fe Street in Downtown El Paso. Ticket prices vary. More Details

District 5 Movies in the Park – Bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks and watch a movie in the park, weather permitting. Free hot dogs and barbecue sandwiches. This week’s movie is “The Lego Movie”. 8:00 p.m. at Tierra Del Este 61, 14241 Strata Rock. FREE

The Doubletree by Hilton presents Saturday Night Movies on the Terrace – You don’t have to be a guest in the hotel to enjoy the movie. Tonight, the Tom Hank classic “Big”. 8:30 p.m., weather permitting, on the Sunset Terrace located on the 7th floor of Doubletree Hotel, 600 N. El Paso St. in downtown El Paso. District 3 Movies Under the Stars – Bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks and watch a movie in the park, weather permitting. This week’s movie is  “The Lego Movie” 8:30 p.m. at Eastwood Park (a.ka. Album Park), 3001 Parkwood St. (Album and Wedgewood). FREE

Horizon City Movies in the Park – Relatively current movies shown on an inflatable screen, weather permitting. Blankets or lawn chairs allowed and you can bring your own snacks or purchase concessions from the Horizon City Police Explorers, but alcohol is prohibited. This week’s movie is “Man of Steel”. FREE. 8:30 p.m. at Corky Corcoran Park, located just off Horizon Boulevard, across from Horizon Star Bakery. More Details

El Paso Chihuahuas Baseball – El Paso’s Triple A team hosts the Reno Aces. It’s Bark at the Park night. Well-behaved dogs welcomed. Chihuahuas bobblehead for the first 2,000 fans with paid admission, plus kids can run the bases postgame. Game time is 6:05 p.m. at Southwest University Park on Santa Fe Street in Downtown El Paso. Music under the Stars – Pack a picnic and take the family to the Chamizal National Memorial for an evening of music and dancing under the stars.7:30pm to 9:30pm. FREE. This week, U2 tribute band Joshua Tree. More Details

Melodies at the Park – This annual series highlights a variety of local acts while showcasing some of the city’s parks. Bring your lounge chairs and enjoy an evening of music at the park. There will be food vendors on site. 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. This week,  Magnum Blue performs at Grandview Park, 3200 Jefferson Ave.
