Here’s what’s going on in and around El Paso this weekend, July 18 – July 20, 2014. Some events are free, the others will cost you a few bucks:

FRIDAY:

Texas Tattoo Showdown Festival – The Country’s largest Tattoo & Music Festival returns to El Paso with over 300 tattoo artists from around the globe, tattoo competitions, food and beer garden, and live music. Tonight’s headliner , The Deftones. Gates to this indoor and outdoor event open daily at 12noon at the El Paso County Coliseum. Ticket prices vary. More Details

Friday at the Fire – Live music by local bands set against the ambiance of the Freedom Crossing at Ft. Bliss outdoor fireplace. 6 – 11 p.m. FREE. This week, Mainstreet (Rock, Classic Rock).

Alfresco! Fridays – Fresh-air performances from local bands playing various genres of music. 6 p.m. on the Convention Center Plaza. FREE. This week, Toll Booth Willie (Ska, 80’s, Pop-Rock). More Details

UTEP Dinner Theatre Presents ‘Chess’ – UTEP Dinner Theatre closes the season with the musical about two chess grandmasters, an American and a Soviet, fighting over a woman who manages one and falls in love with the other, all in the context of a politically-driven, Cold War-era tournament between the two men. 7 p.m., 2nd Floor UTEP’s Union Building West. Ticket prices vary. More Details

Movies on the Lawn – UTEP’s annual summer film series features movies shown outdoors on an 18-foot inflatable screen. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, but leave your alcohol and glass containers at home. Concessions available. This week’s featured film is “Harry and the Hendersons”. Movie starts at approximately 8:30 p.m., weather permitting, at Kidd Field on the UTEP Campus. FREE. More Details

Movies in the Canyon – Family friendly, relatively current movies screened on an inflatable screen set up on the stage of the McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre. Approximately 8:30 p.m., weather permitting. FREE. No outside food or beverages allowed. Popcorn, soft drinks and other snacks sold at the concession stand. SATURDAY:

Farmer’s Market at Ardovino’s Desert Crossing – The “producers only” market features area farmers, backyard gardeners and artisans selling organic and pesticide-free vegetables, locally-made goat cheeses, natural free range chickens and eggs, native plants for home and yard, fresh-baked breads and salsas. 7:30 a.m. to noon. Downtown Artist and Farmers Market – The market offers the chance to shop for original arts and crafts and regionally grown produce in an outdoor setting while enjoying entertainment featuring local artists, food vendors and free activities for the entire family. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Union Plaza District (near The Garden Restaurant) along Anthony Street. Family Play Date at Freedom Crossing – The theme for this family-themed event is Luau Party. Hawaiian-themed activities include craft tables, hula dance lessons, photo booth, and free rides on the trackless train. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Freedom Crossing, 11611 Haan Road at Ft. Bliss

Dancing In the City – The outdoor dance/concert series includes a dance lesson at 7:00 p.m. and a live music performance from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. In the Convention Center Plaza next to Abraham Chavez Theatre. FREE. This week, Jenni Dale Lord Band (Country).

The Doubletree by Hilton presents Saturday Night Movies on the Terrace – You don’t have to be a guest in the hotel to enjoy the movie. Tonight, “The Goonies”. 8:30 p.m., weather permitting, on the Sunset Terrace located on the 7th floor of Doubletree Hotel, 600 N. El Paso St. in downtown El Paso.
