El Paso Weekend Events

Here’s what’s going on in and around El Paso this weekend, May 16 – May 18, 2014. Some events are free, the others will cost you a few bucks:

FRIDAY:

Moore’s Greater Shows Carnival – Rides, games and of course, carnival food! 5 p.m.- midnight in the Cielo Vista Mall parking lot. Admission is FREE, ride tickets are $1 or $25 for a wristband good for unlimited rides

Alfresco! Fridays – Fresh-air performances from local bands playing various genres of music. 6 p.m. No outside food or beverages allowed. No pets allowed. Still downtown, but now on the Convention Center Plaza. This week, PT & The Cruisers (classic rock). More Details

Friday at the Fire – Enjoy an evening of live music set against the ambiance of the Freedom Crossing outdoor fireplace. Tonight, Sobredosis del Sabor (salsa, cumbia, merengue). 6- 11 p.m. at Freedom Crossing at Fort Bliss, 1611 Haan Road. FREE.

El Paso Chihuahuas Baseball – El Paso’s Triple A team hosts the Las Vegas 51s. Collector Series #2 jersey pins to first 2,000 guests. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Ticket prices vary. More Details

UTEP Dinner Theatre Presents ‘Les Miserables’ – The award-winning musical based on the novel of the same name returns by popular demand. 7 p.m., 2nd Floor UTEP’s Union Building West. Ticket prices vary. More Details

Ice Skating – Whoosh around on ice skates in the area’s largest public ice skating rink. 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Sierra Providence Event Center, 4100 E Paisano, behind the El Paso County Coliseum. Cost: $8, $6 Military. Admission includes skate rental. More Details

El Paso Playhouse Presents ‘A Little Murder Never Hurt Anybody’ – El Paso’s Longest Running Community Theater presents its summer production of “A Little Murder Never Hurt Anybody,” described as “an homage to the screwball comedies of the 1930s and 1940s.” Showtime is 8 p.m. at the El Paso Playhouse, 2501 Montana. SATURDAY:

Downtown Artist and Farmers Market – The market offers the chance to shop for original arts and crafts and regionally grown produce in an outdoor setting while enjoying entertainment featuring local artists, food vendors and free activities for the entire family. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Union Plaza District (near The Garden Restaurant) along Anthony Street. Winter Market at Ardovino’s Desert Crossing – The “producers only” market features area farmers, backyard gardeners and artisans selling organic and pesticide-free vegetables, locally-made goat cheeses, natural free range chickens and eggs, native plants for home and yard, fresh-baked breads and salsas. 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (575) 589-0653, ext. 3

Armed Forces Day – Fort Bliss’ annual open house event featuring equipment static displays, demonstrations, entertainment, chili cook-off, car show, food and drink concessions. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Biggs Park, 11388 Sergeants Major Blvd. on East Fort Bliss. Art in the Park - The City Parks & Recreation Department will host the spring edition of the arts and crafts fair. The event also offers continuous entertainment and food for purchase.. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Memorial Park’s Reserve area, 3100 Copper. FREE admission. 544-0753

Feast in the Middle East – The annual May festival and dinner includes live Arabic music, all your favorite authentic Middle Eastern food, bake table and guided church tours.
