El Paso Weekend Events – Wine Festival + More

Here’s what’s going on in and around El Paso this weekend, April 25 – April 27, 2014.Some events are free, the others will cost you a few bucks:

FRIDAY:

That ’70s Party – 93.1 KISS-FM and The Holiday Inn Airport present the annual That ’70s Party. This year’s event will feature local favorites Fungi Mungle rockin’ the house inside and Mainstreet jamming outside, plus DJ’s spinning the ’70s dance classics in all the party rooms. 7 p.m. – 2 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Airport, 6655 Gateway West. Friday at the Fire – Enjoy an evening of live music set against the ambiance of the Freedom Crossing outdoor fireplace. Tonight, Sha’Vonne (rock, R&B). 6- 11 p.m. at Freedom Crossing at Fort Bliss, 1611 Haan Road. FREE.

UTEP’s Get Reel Film Series – Get Reel (previously Cinema Novo) presents independent and educational films as well as blockbuster movies for as little as $1. Tonight’s movie is the documentary Blackfish. 7 p.m., UTEP Union Cinema, 500 W. University. Admission is $1 – $2. More Details

UTEP Dinner Theatre Presents ‘Les Miserables’ – The award-winning musical based on the novel of the same name returns by popular demand. 7 p.m., 2nd Floor UTEP’s Union Building West. Ticket prices vary. More Details

Ice Skating – Whoosh around on ice skates in the area’s largest public ice skating rink. 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Sierra Providence Event Center, 4100 E Paisano, behind the El Paso County Coliseum. Cost: $8, $6 Military. Admission includes skate rental. More Details

El Paso Symphony Orchestra Presents ‘Raising the Roof’ – The El Paso Symphony season finale includes Bernstein’s “Overture to Candide,” Michael Daugherty’s “Raise the Roof” and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5. 7:30 p.m. in the Plaza Theatre, 125 Pioneer Plaza. Ticket prices vary. More Details

SATURDAY:

Downtown Artist and Farmers Market – The market offers the chance to shop for original arts and crafts and regionally grown produce in an outdoor setting while enjoying entertainment featuring local artists, food vendors and free activities for the entire family. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Union Plaza District (near The Garden Restaurant) along Anthony Street. Winter Market at Ardovino’s Desert Crossing – The “producers only” market features area farmers, backyard gardeners and artisans selling organic and pesticide-free vegetables, locally-made goat cheeses, natural free range chickens and eggs, native plants for home and yard, fresh-baked breads and salsas. 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (575) 589-0653, ext. 3

La Viña Spring Wine Festival – Music, crafts, food and more than 20 award-winning New Mexico wines available for tasting or purchase highlight this annual event. 12 noon to 7 p.m. at La Viña Winery, 4201 S. NM Highway 28 in La Union, N.M. Admission varies. More Details
