Here’s what’s going on in and around El Paso this weekend, April 4 – April 6, 2014.Some events are free, some will cost you a few bucks:

FRIDAY:

Live Horse Racing – The live horse racing season continues at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino. Post time is 12:55 p.m. Free general admission and parking. More Details

San Eli First Friday ArtWalk and Ghost Tour – All of the art galleries stay open into the evening for this once a month event in the San Elizario Art District. Live music at the Bandido Cantina, the “Movie on the Wall” at 8:00 p.m. and the San Elizario Ghost Tour at 10:00 p.m.are also part of the festivities. 6 – 9 p.m. in the Art District located off Socorro Rd at Main Street. Carlos Mencia – One of today’s most popular entertainers and stand-up comedians returns to the Comic Strip, 1201 Airway. Tickets are $32.50. More Details

Friday at the Fire – Enjoy an evening of live music set against the ambiance of the Freedom Crossing outdoor fireplace. Tonight, local rock band Mainstreet. 6- 11 p.m. at Freedom Crossing at Fort Bliss, 1611 Haan Road. FREE.

UTEP’s Get Reel Film Series – Get Reel (previously Cinema Novo) presents independent and educational films as well as blockbuster movies for as little as $1. Tonight’s movie is Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2. 7 p.m., UTEP Union Cinema, 500 W. University. Admission is $1 – $2. More Details

El Paso Playhouse Presents ‘Dial ‘M’ For Murder’ – El Paso Playhouse presents the classic crime-thriller about a man who arranges to have his wife murdered. 8 p.m. at the El Paso Playhouse, 2501 Montana. Ticket prices vary. More Details

SATURDAY:

Downtown Artist and Farmers Market – The market offers the chance to shop for original arts and crafts and regionally grown produce in an outdoor setting while enjoying entertainment featuring local artists, food vendors and free activities for the entire family. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Union Plaza District (near The Garden Restaurant) along Anthony Street. Winter Market at Ardovino’s Desert Crossing – The “producers only” market features area farmers, backyard gardeners and artisans selling organic and pesticide-free vegetables, locally-made goat cheeses, natural free range chickens and eggs, native plants for home and yard, fresh-baked breads and salsas. 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (575) 589-0653, ext. 3

Earth Day Celebration – The City of El Paso Environmental Services Department celebrates Earth Day with fun, food, and education, including booths, live demonstrations and games promoting the preservation of our planet. Bring 25 plastic bags to recycle and receive a FREE reusable bag while supplies last. Free document shredding will also be available. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the City Municipal Service Center, 7968 San Paulo Drive. 621-6754

Fort Bliss Spring Bazaar – Arts and crafts, antiques, clothes, bake sale, door prizes and food booths are all a part of the spring bazaar hosted by the Non-commissioned Officer’s Club. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Fort Bliss Trading Post, 1717 Marshall Road. Admission is $1. 590-7202

Concordia Cemetery Ghost Tour – The Paso del Norte Paranormal Society will hold a paranormal investigation of Concordia Cemetery from 9 to 11 p.m. Admission: $10; 13 and older. Proceeds go toward restoration and preservation of the cemetery. More Details

SUNDAY:

El Paso Sports and Get Fit Expo – This year’ special guests are Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrance Williams and Baseball Hall-of-Famer Goose Gossage. The 13th annual expo also features free health screenings, sports card and collectors’ tables, sports-related exhibitions, and retailers selling sporting goods and more.
