El Paso Police say a man who was shot in an east side apartment complex early Monday morning might be involved in 22 vehicle burglaries in that complex.

Police were called to the La Privada apartments on Betel around 5 o’clock Monday morning. A woman said she confronted a man who had allegedly broken into her car. Police found the suspect inside a car in the parking lot, but when they tried to stop the him, he drove off, hit a parked vehicle, and then allegedly drove at the officers.

One officer shot at the suspect, but the suspect managed to escape in the vehicle, and then crashed into another vehicle on the street. He took off on foot but was arrested by officers.

The female officer who shot at the suspect is a two-year veteran of the force, as is her female partner. The officer who fired her gun has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
