According to our news partners at KVIA, 27 year old police officer Angel Garcia, was responding to a call of a ladder on the interstate around 7:15 this morning.  He got out of his police vehicle to get the ladder off the road when he was hit by a vehicle. Two more vehicles collided after the initial crash.  Four vehicles, including the police car, a semi-truck, and 2 other vehicles, were ultimately involved.

A police department spokesperson said Officer Garcia had only been out of the Academy for 9 months.

Police are continuing to investigate the accident, and are asking the public for it's help in finding witnesses to the ladder falling on the freeway, and witnesses to the actual accident involving Officer Garcia.  If you have any information, please contact EPPD at 832-4400 or 566-TIPS.

Our thoughts and prayers go to the family of Officer Garcia.
