Downtown El Paso is going to look like a scene from out of The Walking Dead the Saturday before Halloween.

That's when the undead take over San Jacinto Plaza for the Downtown Halloween Zombie Walk.

The ghoulish gathering is being hosted by the City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2017.

City officials tell me the gory procession of brain eaters will slowly make it's way around the plaza beginning at 7:30 p.m., stopping only occasionally to pick up any limbs that fall off, before heading out towards the Plaza Theatre and returning to the park.

If you want to play zombie yourself you're more than welcome to lurch and shuffle along.

All Parks and Rec asks is that you donate at least one non-perishable food item to participate. All items collected will be given to the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger food bank.

In addition to the Zombie Walk, the evening will feature a variety of all-ages activities and events, including performances by several local dance groups, a DJ pumping out the jams, and two costume contests. Categories for the costume contests, set for 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., are "funny costume," "group costume," "DIY costume," and a pet costume contest.

A variety of food vendors will also be on hand. Sorry, zombies. I'm told brains won’t be on any of the menus.
