If you ever wanted to be part of the art world, well here is your chance because the El Paso Museum of Art is seeking volunteers this month.

The El Paso Museum of Art is looking for dedicated volunteers, known as docents, to be part of the team to assist in guided tours and participate in special events at the museum.

Docents are the men and women responsible for presenting the museum’s gallery tours and school programs to visitors. They are people with an interest in sharing art with diverse audiences, are comfortable around people of all ages, enjoy assisting in the learning process and are able to commit to supporting the program through volunteering for one year following training.

Previous knowledge of art is not necessary, but candidates must be able to commit to a six month training program (2016-2017 Docent Training Program). Training classes meet once a week on Monday mornings. Bilingual skills are not required but are highly valued.  A typical tour lasts one hour. Docents are asked to give a minimum of four tours per month during the school year.

The application process for Fall 2016 is open through August 26, 2016. For more information, contact the museum’s Education Curator, Elisabeth Sommer at (915) 212-3056 or email sommerex@elpasotexas.gov.
